King
Ludwig II's Bavarian fantasy, has seeped so thoroughtly into the collective
consciousness that it is the first picture that comes to mind when you imagine
a castle-128km south of Munich in the Bavarian Alps on Romantische Strasse. Begun in 1867-84, when the
king was 24, but he here only 102 days, and modeled after the 14th-century castle at Wartburg. An arcade
with rounded Romanesque arches and Gothic towers, inside pure Byzantiumstyle,
took 23 years to built. Photo by Md Youngjin Shin.
