Fairy-tale/Ludwig's Castle
   Schloss Neuschwanstein, Schwangau, Bavaria



 King Ludwig II's Bavarian fantasy, has seeped so thoroughtly into the collective consciousness that it is the first picture that comes to mind when you imagine a castle-128km south of Munich in the Bavarian Alps on Romantische Strasse. Begun in 1867-84, when the king was 24, but he here only 102 days, and modeled after the 14th-century castle at Wartburg. An arcade with rounded Romanesque arches and Gothic towers, inside pure Byzantiumstyle, took 23 years to built. Photo by Md Youngjin Shin.
