Kinkaku-ji/Golden Pavilion Temple
Kinkakuji-cho, Kita-ku, Kyoto

by by the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu
on 1397 for Zen temple, construction system was timber frame, clay tile roof
in ornamental garden. Style was traditional Japanese,
KinkakuJi-the Golden Pavilion was reconstructed. It is the only building left
practically intact from the residence which the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa(1436-90). The
name Kinkaku (Golden Pavilion) derives from the gold leaf used to decorate the
inside and outside of the second and third stories.
