The Buddha is a statue of Maitreya in sitting posture.
Located to the east of Leshan City, at the confluence of three
rivers-Min, Qingyi and Dadu River. In December, 1996, the location of
the Buddha was included by UNESCO on the list of the World Heritage sites. Begun
in 713 in the Tang Dynasty, and
finished in 803, the statue took people more than 90 years to carve. It's 71 m
high, and has 3 m-long fingers. The 8 m-long
instep is big enough for one hundred people to sit on and the

9 Turn Cliff Road

Along the 500m long Grand Buddha Cliff Road are many scenic spots of legends. A zigzag cliff road built in the 8th century. It was descrived in the history as 'A Passage for birds' because of its dangerous situation. Along the road, there are lots of delicate Buggha images. Photo by Byunggu Yu on 22 February 2008.

Lingbao Pagoda

The square break pagoda, 39 meters high and 13-storey, multi-eave.
There are actually only 5 storeys inside, and people can go to the top of the
pagoda and enjoy views of Jiazhou. Built in the Tang Dynasty, located on
top of Lingbao Peak, it was named after the name of the mountain. The form of
the Pagoda is a tetragonal pyramid with thick eaves and is built with bricks.
It's seated in the east and facing the west. The top of pagoda is

Monk Haitong Cave

It originally was a 10 meters deep cave-tomb dug in the 3rd century. Monk Haitong was said to liv in the cave when the Giant Buddha was being carved. Gu Guangxi, authorized Sichuan inspector, named thr cave and wrote the 'Records on Monk Haitong Cave. Photo by Byunggu Yu on 22 February 2008.
Dragon Pool & Tiger Lair

Lingyun Hill with dense forest and peaks offered in ancient times a good shelter to a white tiger, while at the foot of the hill the three rivers, Mingjiang, Dadu and Qingyi,
met and provided a black dragon with waves for play. It was said that, the white tiger and black dragon inspiced by Buddhist scriptures changed themselves into a stone
dragon and jade tiger to guard Buddhism. This site has been one of the scenic spots in Lingyun Hill since the Dang Dynasty. Photo by Byunggu Yu on 22 February 2008.

Guo Moruo's Former Residence
Shawan District, Leshan

Guo Moruo(1892-1978)was a noted novelist, poet, historian and
literary critic. He took part in the May Fourth Movement of 1919, and joined the
Chinese Communist Party in 1927. After spending several years in Japan, he
returned to China during the war against the Japanese invaders. He worked closely
with Zhou Enlai, and held a number of important posts after the founding of the
